His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today met with several officials to review the progress on the ongoing implementation of the Muharraq City Development Plan and the redevelopment plan for the historical Manama Souq area, at Gudaibiya Palace.
His Royal Highness affirmed the commitment to following up on the implementation of the Royal Order of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to preserve the historical and cultural identity of Bahrain’s buildings and cities, and to launch a comprehensive plan to restore Isa Al Kabeer Palace and the neighbourhoods of Muharraq, as well as redevelop the historical area of Manama Souq, helping to preserve the area’s unique history and cultural identity.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister noted the rich history and unique cultural identity of the cities of Muharraq and Manama, and the heritage landmarks they encompass that are associated with significant milestones in Bahraini history.
HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad highlighted the importance of further developing both cities while preserving their historical and cultural identity, in a way that safeguards their heritage and strengthens their standing as enduring symbols of Bahrain’s history.
His Royal Highness reviewed the latest developments in the implementation of the Muharraq City Development Plan and the redevelopment of the historical area of Manama Souq. In this regard, His Royal Highness emphasised the importance of sustaining efforts to achieve the development objectives for both areas.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister stressed the critical role of coordination among the various entities and accelerating the implementation of projects to achieve the desired objectives.
HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad also highlighted the importance of preserving cultural and heritage landmarks alongside development efforts, ensuring a balance between maintaining the historical identity of the targeted areas and meeting development requirements.
His Royal Highness noted that the historical and cultural heritage of Bahrain’s cities and regions forms an integral part of the Kingdom’s national identity, emphasising the importance of preserving and showcasing this heritage and strengthening its presence for generations to come, in a way that reflects the Kingdom’s historical identity.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Court, HE Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, and several senior officials also attended the meeting.
