HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister meets with the winners of the Innovation in Irrigation Solutions Competition
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, met today with the winners of the Innovation in Irrigation Solutions Competition at Riffa Palace.
His Royal Highness emphasised the importance of supporting creativity and innovation to develop solutions that enhance the efficient use of available resources and capabilities, in support of the goals of the Kingdom’s comprehensive development, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister affirmed the integral role of afforestation in urban development, noting its contribution to enhancing the natural landscape of urban areas, expanding green spaces, and promoting environmental sustainability.
His Royal Highness underscored that fostering creativity and innovation, alongside adopting high-quality ideas, contributes to advancing development, enhancing performance, and improving the quality of initiatives and projects.
His Royal Highness congratulated the winners, commending the innovative ideas and solutions they presented. His Royal Highness highlighted the importance of continuing to support and develop promising concepts, translating them into practical solutions that enhance operational efficiency, expand green spaces, and strengthen afforestation efforts, in line with initiatives aimed at achieving environmental sustainability and supporting development.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister commended the efforts of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa in overseeing the implementation of the Kingdom’s Afforestation Plan and the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative, as well as the progress achieved in their respective workstreams.
His Royal Highness also expressed his appreciation to the relevant ministries and government entities for their dedicated efforts in implementing environmental plans and initiatives, commending their cooperation and coordination in achieving the desired goals.
HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister expressed his pride in the wealth of national talent, whose expertise and capabilities enable them to deliver high-quality initiatives and innovative solutions that contribute to further achievements.
His Royal Highness also commended the people of Bahrain for their commitment to developing their capabilities and applying their expertise across various fields, emphasising the importance of continuing to support and empower national talent to transform their ideas into initiatives and projects that contribute to the Kingdom’s progress and development.
For their part, the winners of the Innovation in Irrigation Solutions Competition expressed their gratitude to His Royal Highness for his continued support for national talent, affirming their pride in this recognition and their commitment to continuing their efforts to advance the Kingdom’s prosperity and development.
The meeting was also attended by His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and His Excellency Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy.
The winning ideas in the Innovation in Irrigation Solutions Competition, launched under the directives of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, include the Smart Water Transport project, which aims to enhance the irrigation network through a smart irrigation system utilising Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and artificial intelligence (AI); the reuse of the rainwater drainage networks by channelling treated wastewater during dry periods for irrigation purposes; and the Smart Irrigation Leak Detection System, which utilises AI to optimise irrigation schedules and water quantities.
