HRH Crown Prince holds talks with US Vice President
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander was today received at the White House by US Vice President Joe Biden in the presence of Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa. He described bilateral ties as being historic relations between friends and allies.
“The US support as a permanent ally of moderate countries in the region has contributed greatly in achieving stability and security in this vital and highly strategic region in the world”, he said. He stressed the importance of maintaining cooperation and coordination with the American ally for security and stability to prevail in the region.
Mr Biden stressed the distinguished bilateral relations, paying tribute to His Majesty King Hamad for his “clear stances which contributed to promoting regional stability”. He also credited HRH Prince Salman for his strenuous efforts to bolster stability, peace and security in the region. Talks focused on Bahrain’s instrumental role in promoting peace and security in the Arabian Gulf and the whole Middle East.
The proximity talks between the Palestinian Authority and Israel with the US mediation and support also came under the spotlight. The two sides stressed the necessity for the indirect negotiations to succeed and pave the way for a just, comprehensive and lasting peace. The two leaders discussed the current situation in Iraq, stressing the need for the fledgling democratic experience to stabilise, develop and include all social segments so that the country could regain its regional and international role. The developments relating to the Iranian nuclear programme were also discussed. Bahraini Ambassador to the US Huda Nonoo attended.
