HRH Crown Prince chairs weekly Cabinet meeting
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, today chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.
The Cabinet extended best wishes to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, HRH the Prime Minister, HRH the Crown Prince, Bahrain’s citizens and residents, and the Arab and Islamic nations, on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr
Following the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary-General, HE Dr. Yasser bin Issa Al-Nasser, made the following remarks:
The Cabinet highlighted the success of the recent Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Arab League summits, and the 14th session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation that took place in Makkah, Saudi Arabia
The Cabinet praised the speeches given by HM the King, which reflected the joint visions of the GCC nations and Arab and Islamic countries in further strengthening regional security and stability, and safeguarding the region from terrorist regimes and their funders, and affirmed the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent, sovereign state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Cabinet noted the importance of establishing a comprehensive, two-state solution in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative
The Cabinet praised the leading role played by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in hosting the urgent summits which served to strengthen the shared visions of participating countries
The Cabinet welcomed the outcomes of the summits, particularly the final statements made by the GCC and Arab League nations which underlined the strength of the GCC and its united approach to addressing regional challenges.
The Cabinet condemned the State of Qatar’s retreat from what was agreed upon at the Gulf and Arab summits. The Cabinet stressed that in failing to condemn external interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, Qatar has revealed to the world that its agenda is in conflict with the best interests of the region. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs presented a report containing the most important results and resolutions issued during the summits
HRH the Crown Prince then congratulated students who recently finished their examinations, and wished them success in their future educational endeavours
Regarding the upcoming World Environment Day, HRH the Crown Prince reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing programmes and initiatives that protect the environment, combat air pollution, and provide support to the international community in its efforts to preserve the global environment
A number of submissions, memorandums and proposed laws were discussed during the meeting. The Cabinet outlined the following outcomes:
The Cabinet discussed a memorandum submitted by HE the Deputy Prime Minister on enactment of legislation that would allow the gradual introduction of disciplinary sanctions in the laws regulating professions such as law, medicine, engineering and pharmacy to ensure fairness in the imposition of disciplinary and administrative sanctions that commensurate with the nature of the violations. By these amendments, the penalty of suspension from practicing the profession and the revocation of the license to practise it will precede oral investigations, written warnings and fines.
The Cabinet then referred the memorandum to the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs.
The Cabinet approved an MOU between Bahrain’s Ministry of Education and the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity. The MOU sets the framework for the exchange of information in the field of talent and creativity, including identifying talents as well as participating in local and international competitions that build global citizens who excel in academics.
In line with the efforts taken to provide the best mobile services and encourage investment in this key sector, conforming with Bahrain’s pioneering position within this field, the Cabinet approved a memorandum submitted by HE the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications. The memorandum details the mechanism and conditions for the allocation of capacities and frequencies in different spectrums, including the 800 and 2600 MHz and 3400 to 3700 MHz, to provide advanced services, including 5G services.
The Cabinet welcomed the launch of the National Campaign for Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which will be implemented through King Hamad Hospital in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and under the supervision of the Supreme Council of Health, as part of the Executive Plan for Cancer Control for the years 2016-2025. The campaign is aimed at males and females in the age group 45-75 years. The first phase of the campaign will include 5000 people from the Muharraq Governorate and will be phased out accordingly. The project aims to prevent and detect early colon cancer, and activate community partnerships to combat cancer.
The Cabinet discussed a memorandum submitted by HE the Minster of Youth and Sports Affairs regarding the possibility of placing advertisements on buildings dedicated to sport facilities and stadiums. The Cabinet referred the memorandum to the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs
