HRH Crown Prince attends 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix award ceremony; highlights the race’s benefits to the economy

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, this evening attended the 2017 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix award ceremony.

His Royal Highness presented the race trophies to the winner, Sebastian Vettel from the team Scuderia Ferrari, runner-up Lewis Hamilton from the team Mercedes-AMG Petronas, and third-placed Valtteri Bottas from the team Mercedes-AMG Petronas.

Following the trophy ceremony, the Crown Prince said that since its inception in 2004 the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix has marked one of the region’s biggest sporting occasions and the whole country has once again been delighted to welcome teams and fans back to the Kingdom.

His Royal Highness highlighted that with another high turnout over the race weekend, the Bahrain Grand Prix remains a key fixture within the F1 calendar and continues to generate excitement both within the Kingdom and around the world.

His Royal Highness said that the Bahrain Grand Prix is testament to the government’s ongoing commitment to delivering a sustainable economy that benefits all Bahrainis. He noted the role that more than a decade of experience, planning, and collaboration with business and cultural organisations has played in ensuring the Grand Prix delivers significant economic benefits far beyond the track.

The Crown Prince concluded by extending his appreciation and thanks to the BIC staff and partners for their successful organisation of the race, and praised the many Bahraini volunteers who worked throughout the weekend and acted as global ambassadors for the Kingdom.‎
