Crown Prince meets UK Foreign Secretary

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today met the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary, William Hague in the sidelines of the Manana Dialogue at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Manama.

His Royal Highness expressed his appreciation to the UK for supporting the reform and development strategy, which His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa initiated. Additionally, His Royal Highness appreciated the UK’s recognition of the steps carried out by the Bahraini government thus far in order to implement the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI).

His Royal Highness noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues its journey of successful reform and development based on unequivocal integration and co-ordination to foster the genuine intentions and the strong will that Bahrain possess towards protecting the interests of the Kingdom.

His Royal Highness went on to talk about constructive participation, describing it as ‘still open’, while emphasising that it will always be in an unconditional manner revolving around fundamental national values and a sense of responsibility and transparency. His Royal Highness stated that the fact of the matter remains that national interests and the progress of reform and development to this date cannot be dismissed, as granting rights is predicated upon fulfilling duties and responsibilities by all.

During the meeting, His Royal Highness reiterated that supporting the direction of the longstanding bilateral relations with the UK intended to establish symbiotic commitment and trust to support collaboration between the two countries on different levels.

His Royal Highness remarked on the role of the UK amidst important developments in the region in supporting regional and international security and stability. His Royal Highness also referred to the importance of collective participation based on equality and trust between stakeholders, whilst comprehending the duties and responsibilities that may arise as a result.

In response, Secretary Hague reiterated the United Kingdom’s ongoing support to Bahrain across many spheres and its commitment to supporting the ongoing programme of reform and development.
