Crown Prince statement on the passing of Nelson Mandela

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today gave the following statement on the death of former South African President, Nelson Mandela:

“Nelson Mandela was the embodiment of courageous leadership in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

“His true legacy was his ability to rise above temptation to follow the easy route of violence and retribution and take the higher path, the more difficult path, of reconciliation, dialogue and forgiveness for the good of his nation, its people and of mankind. 

“He once said:”Great anger and violence can never build a nation.  We are striving to proceed in a manner and towards a result, which will ensure that all our people…emerge as victors.

“Nelson Mandela, I salute you, you were an example of true leadership that history will mark forever.”
