HRH Crown Prince Receives UNDP Administrator

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today met with Mrs Helen Clark, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at Gudaibiya Palace.  His Royal Highness welcomed the visit of Mrs Clark to Bahrain where she launched the UNDP report : ‘’Water Governance in the Arab Region: Managing Scarcity and Securing the future” , in an event attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, who was also present at the meeting.

His Royal Highness voiced support to UN efforts to spread awareness on water security issues in the Arab region and the future of this issue, which requires accurate analysis to effectively manage the challenges incorporated.His Royal Highness said that Bahrain was keen on supporting these efforts in line with its commitment to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to cooperation with UN programmes active in Bahrain.

His Royal Highness also said this aspect was to be taken into consideration when formulating programmes for development and economic growth, especially that it is also linked to health, environmental, social and food security matters. He said this required a thorough collaboration between organisations and countries to ensure an effective exchange of expertise and capabilities.

His Royal Highness also stressed the importance of maintaining security and stability to support the pace of development efforts.Mrs Clark expressed her thanks for the support that the UNDP had received from Bahrain for the arrangements of launching the report and the understanding for the importance of this sensitive issue.
