Deputy King receives Special Envoy of the African Union to Somalia

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy of His Majesty the King and Crown Prince today met the Special Envoy of the African Union to Somalia, Mr. Jerry Rawlings, the former President of Ghana, at the Riffa Palace. His Royal Highness praised Mr. Rawlings’ dedication and efforts in co-operating with the multiple parties involved efforts to bring stability to Somalia and encouraging greater development in the African country and the wider region.

His Royal Highness also acknowledged Mr Rawlings’ role as the former president of Ghana in the ongoing economic success of his country, considered one of the main engines of growth on the African continent. His Royal Highness added that Bahrain, within the framework of the GCC, recognises the importance of cooperation and coordination with Africa in various areas, including economic and trade. 

He also noted the importance of boosting youth and cultural exchange programmes to contribute to building broader ties between the Gulf and Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Rawlings expressed his delight at visiting Bahrain and wished it continued development and stability.  He also stated support for His Royal Highness in encouraging cooperation and coordination between the GCC and Africa.
