Deputy King Receives IMO Secretary-General
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy of His Majesty the King and Crown Prince, said that the kingdom’s landmark achievements in the maritime sector are closely related to its geographical location and thriving marine industries throughout history, adding that continuous interest to develop such a vital sector stems from its key contributions to the efforts to achieve sustainable development and role in generating job opportunities.
Speaking as received at Riffa Palace today the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Koji Sekimizu, currently on a visit to the kingdom to take part in the International Maritime Seminar, held on the sidelines of Bahrain Maritime Festival (BMF), HRH Prince Salman affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to cooperate with specialised international organisations in order to develop its maritime transport systems and make them more sustainable and integrated with land and air ones so as to achieve good results that spur economic development.The Deputy of HM the King also commended IMO’s efforts to ensure the safety of maritime navigation from accidents and pollution, whether through taking appropriate measures, agreements or training of human resources.
On his part, Koji Sekimizu expressed delight at visiting the kingdom to participate in the International seminar on maritime navigation, which, he said, will be a platform where participants exchange views and information on the present and future situation of marine navigation, reiterating IMO’s readiness to provide all necessary support for the kingdom in such a vital sector.Transportation Minister Kamel bin Ahmed Mohammed, the Advisor for Political and Economic Affairs at HRH Crown Prince’s Court Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa and Head of HRH Crown Prince’s Court Shaikh Khalifa bin Daij Al Khalifa were also present.
