HRH the Crown Prince receives a delegation of German Parliamentarians

HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme commander, met with a visiting German parliamentary delegation from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) parties at Riffa Palace yesterday.

HRH the Crown Prince stated that fostering the cohesiveness of Bahrain’s diverse and cosmopolitan society and the maintenance of this characteristic aspect of our society is one of the key aims of the government’s policy. This understanding, coupled with the complete rejection of violence and negative trends will be essential for overcoming the trials of last year. HRH the Crown Prince added that an objective diagnosis of current challenges facing the country is crucial for reaching the right conclusions and taking the appropriate steps towards reaching solutions and achieving national reconciliation, citing many steps that have been made towards attaining this aim. Among them was the creation of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) and the implementation of BICI’s recommendations. HRH The Crown Prince affirmed that the progressive reform program initiated by HM the King more than a decade ago has been built on solid foundations for a democratic society with a clear separation of powers and checks and balances. Adding that reform efforts are continuous and ongoing.From his part, the head of the German Parliamentarian delegation,Mr. Rudolf Heinki, stated that Germany’s position in regards to the events of last year is to reject any sort of violence on the streets and to see safety, security, and unity among the people of Bahrain. He also added that one of the purposes of their visit is to get a firsthand account and knowledge of the situation on the ground and not take at face value what has been reported in the media regarding current events.The delegation also met with Deputy Prime Minister HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and both houses of Parliament.The delegation praised the climate of freedom and openness as well as parliamentary and political progress achieved in Bahrain.
