Crown Prince attends opening of Bahrain’s inter-civilisations conference

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today attended the opening of a landmark inter-civilisations dialogue conference on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad.

The “Civilisations in Service to Humanity” Conference, held at the Gulf Hotel in Manama, focused on the importance of inter-faith dialogue in promoting religious tolerance, coexistence, and cultural ties.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince praised the conference for strengthening ties among nations, and fostering international cooperation across social, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

His Royal Highness highlighted the valuable role of dialogue in improving awareness and understanding of the common values shared by humankind. He emphasised the need to mitigate differences among people and to focus on shared principles to secure economic, social and cultural development.

His Royal Highness reaffirmed the Kingdom’s own commitment to promoting dialogue and welcoming initiatives undertaken by international and regional organisations to build links between international communities. His Royal Highness further underlined that tolerance and respect for diversity are fundamental tenets of Bahrain’s reform and development programme.

His Royal Highness concluded by extending his thanks to the guests and attendees and organisers of the conference.

His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Muhammad Al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of the Al Azhar Mosque, also addressed the conference and highlighted the history of Islamic civilisation in forging links between nations. Sheikh Al-Tayyeb praised the role of the conference in reinforcing the principles of equality and justice that are essential to maintaining social stability and development for all. 

Following the speech of the Grand Imam, His Royal Highness Prince Hassan bin Talal, addressed the forum.

Prince Hassan highlighted the role of enhanced dialogue in resolving international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian issues. He stressed that effective dialogue among nations is vital for securing peace that is based on shared ethics and values. 

The Conference was then addressed by the Chairman of the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, His Royal Highness Prince Turki Al Faisal al Saud. During his address, His Royal Highness discussed effective means of building friendly links among nations, in addition to the need to remove threats to peace and enhance international cooperation.

The conference was attended by more than 150 religious figures from 80 different countries.
