Crown Prince Chairs Executive Committee meeting to discuss GCC Development Programme projects and other E-Government services

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today chaired an Executive Committee meeting during which development projects being implemented by the GCC Development Programme and various online services launched by the E-government Authority were discussed.

The Committee’s discussions covered details of housing and infrastructure projects that are expected to be approved this month with a substantial budget of US$651.5 Million. These projects form part of the government’s initial prioritisation of the development of housing units in the Northern Governorate (al-Madina al-Shamaliya) and East Hidd, in addition to a state of the art cables network to ensure stable transfer of electricity at a capacity of 400kV.

The education sector will also particularly receive a boost in the coming months as a result of a number of public schools development projects being funded by the GCC Development Programme throughout the Kingdom, the Executive Committee announced.

His Royal Highness highlighted that housing development accounts for the majority of the programme’s projects, a prioritisation that underlines His Majesty King Hamad’s directives to provide housing that fully meets the needs of all Bahraini families and delivers significant improvements to public services.

The Committee’s discussions also covered the latest developments in the e-Complaints and Suggestions system (Tawasul), which saw a preliminary launch in 2013 by the E-government Authority (EGA), with a particular focus on mobile and online connection applications aimed at enhancing government performance and level of service.

The Committee was presented with the milestones of the Tawasul system for the year, including the selection of 12 new government entities which are set to subscribe to the Tawasul system in the near future. In addition, the committee reviewed a status report on a suite of highly interactive applications developed by the EGA in order to facilitate improved interaction with the public. These applications consist of 38 online services made available to the public via the EGA’s portal, as well as the development of phone applications that offer an additional 23 services.

On the success of the Tawasul system, His Royal Highness emphasised that Tawasul epitomises the close coordination among government entities that help positively address the needs of Bahrain’s citizens and creates a unified platform for all government entities to interact with the public.
