Deputy King receives Russian Ambassador

Deputy King His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa today met with the Russian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Viktor Smirnov, at Riffa Palace.

During the meeting, the Deputy King noted the strength of bilateral ties between the two countries across a variety of sectors, and paid tribute to Russia’s support of the steps taken by Bahrain in delivering its programme of reform in the interests of all its citizens.

His Royal Highness also recalled His Majesty’s historic visit to Russia, which greatly enhanced close coordination and partnership between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Russian Ambassador delivered a letter to His Royal Highness from His Excellency the Prime Minister of Russia, Mr. Dmitry Medvdev, extending an invitation to His Royal Highness to visit the Russian Federation. The letter also underscored ties between the two nations. His Royal Highness expressed his appreciation for the letter and extended congratulations to the people and the Government of Russia on the successful hosting of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The Deputy King and the Ambassador discussed the latest developments in the Arab world and internationally. In this context His Royal Highness emphasised Bahrain’s interest in increasing coordination between the Kingdom and Russia across a range of sectors, in addition to greater collaboration in regional and international affairs.

For his part, the Russian Ambassador expressed his gratitude for His Royal Highness’s interest in enhancing ties with Russia and for the opportunity to meet.
