His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister attended the 14th Horse Race organized by Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club at Al-Riffeh area today.
The event consisted of four races in total, featuring first class Arabian horses registered with the World Arabian Horse Organisation (WAHO). The last two races saw entrants compete for His Royal Highness’s cups.
His Royal Highness highlighted the Kingdom’s support of horse riding. His Royal Highness further noted that horse riding is entrenched in the rich Arabic and Islamic roots of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Commenting on the popularity of horse riding within the community, His Royal Highness praised the support and encouragement of His Majesty King Hamad to endorse the sport as a symbol of Bahraini culture. His Royal Highness continued by giving recognition to young Bahrainis who have made significant accomplishments in horse racing, not only within the region but also across the world.
Accompanied by his son His Royal highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness was received by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa the Head of National Guards and His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Deputy Chairman of the Higher Authority of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club and Chairman of the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation.
Also attending the event were a number of their highnesses and other diplomats.
The horse named “Abyan 1335” from Al-Wasmeyah stables, ridden by jockey Gerald and trainer Abdullah Al Kuwaiti won a prize of the 5,000 BHD in the third race for the straight 1600 meters third race.
In the fourth race of 2,000 meters, the horse named “Sayyad” ridden by jockey Hussain Maki won 9,000 BHD. The horse is owned and trained by Fouzi Nass and belongs to a first class local breed.
His Royal Highness presented the trophies to the following winners: His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Abdullah bin Isa Al Khalifa received the Bahrain Cup, owner Abduljaleel Al Malah received the Silver Cup, His Royal Highness’s Cup for Arabian Horses was received by trainer Abdullah Al Kuwaiti and His Royal Highness’s Cup for the Local Breed was received by owner Fouzi Nass.
His Royal Highness commended the efforts of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club and the role of its Higher Authority, led by His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Isa bin Al Khalifa, in organising these events and continually upgrading the club’s activities. His Royal Highness also commended the contribution of horse owners, jockeys and trainers to this sport.
