HRH Crown Prince meets UN Secretary General

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander today met UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon on the sidelines of the International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria in Kuwait City.

HRH Crown Prince gave his appreciation for the UN Secretary General’s public and constructive support for His Majesty the King’s directive for dialogue to resume with political societies. Discussing the initiative, HRH Crown Prince emphasised the commitment to an inclusive approach and the need for all sides to understand the others’ viewpoint in order to reach consensus, which is integral to long term stability He also expressed the need for all sides to be committed to the long term sustainability of the country, to undertake proceedings seriously and in good faith, and for all to contribute to a conducive environment by avoiding acts of disruption.

HRH Crown Prince also emphasised that the initiation of the BICI and its full acceptance by his Majesty King Hamad should not be underestimated. He outlined that the report stands as an enduring measure of Bahrain’s progress and its recovery from the challenges posed by past events.Discussing the ongoing humanitarian crisis and civil war in Syria, HRH Crown Prince noted that the International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria, hosted by Kuwait, was an important initiative for the necessary alleviation of suffering for the Syrian people at this critical stage. He praised the responsible initiative of Kuwait and the UN to consolidate efforts aimed at dealing with the humanitarian crisis.

The UN Secretary General gave his thanks to His Majesty King Hamad and the Kingdom of Bahrain for its support to the people of Syria and the UN’s efforts aimed at addressing the ongoing humanitarian situation in the country.The UN Secretary General also welcomed the efforts, led by His Majesty, toward the continuation of reforms in Bahrain through dialogue as well as improving human rights and good governance.

Both HRH Crown Prince and the UN Secretary General stress the importance of bringing the situation in Syria to a peaceful end, expressing hope in the international efforts to end the violence and achieve stability in the country.
