Crown Prince receives US Special Presidential Envoy John Allen

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today received the United States Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, General John R. Allen, at Gudaibiya Palace.

During the meeting, His Royal Highness stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, in accordance with its commitment to long term stability and security, continues to support international coalition efforts aimed at combating all forms of terrorism and extremism in the region.

In this regard, His Royal Highness emphasised that the growing threat of terrorism and violent extremism only serves to undermine the security and stability of the region and deters regional efforts in pursuit of sustainable and substantive development.

The meeting also covered key areas of international efforts aimed at stemming the tide of terrorist groups active in the region, including the importance of enhanced coordination to combat the financing of terrorism. This follows the announcement that the Kingdom will host a high level international counter terrorism conference next month, which will discuss ways to tackle funding of terrorist groups and other important efforts to combat terrorism.

Turning to the bilateral relationship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United States, His Royal Highness highlighted that these strong ties are built upon a mutual commitment to continue bolstering all levels of bilateral links across various areas.

In response, Special Presidential Envoy John Allen expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with His Royal Highness and highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at countering terrorism in the region.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al-Khalifa, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, son of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, and Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa.
