Crown Prince receives the Director General and Chief Executive of the IISS
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister today met with the Director-General and Chief Executive of The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Dr. John Chipman.
During the meeting, which focused on the upcoming Manama Dialogue, His Royal Highness noted the important role the Manama Dialogue plays by providing a forum for countries to work towards resolving many complex regional and global issues. He went on to add that this year’s event, which marks the tenth edition of the dialogue, comes at a critical time amidst recent regional developments that pose a serious threat to long-term regional security and stability.
In this regard, His Royal Highness emphasised that the 2014 Manama Dialogue can work to advance the process of identifying effective means to stem the tide of terrorist groups active in the region and root out violent extremism. He also noted how recent regional developments demonstrate the importance of further strengthening international cultural and intellectual dialogue to promote a more stable and prosperous future.
In conclusion, His Royal Highness expressed his hope that this year’s Manama Dialogue would allow for productive discussions on a range of critical issues affecting the long-term stability of the region and extended his gratitude to the IISS for its valuable contribution to the organisation of the event.
For his part, General Director Dr. Chipman expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with His Royal Highness and highlighted the wide support that the Manama Dialogue continues to receive by His Royal Highness and the government.
The Manama Dialogue 10th IISS Regional Security Summit will be held in the capital Manama during December 2014.
