The inauguration took place in line with the implementation of the Royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to preserve the historical and cultural identity of Bahrain’s buildings and cities, to launch a comprehensive plan to redevelop Manama Souq’s historical area, and safeguard its historical and cultural heritage.

The building was originally inaugurated in 1962 by the late HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

Marking the occasion, His Royal Highness highlighted the Kingdom’s extensive experience in municipal work, spanning over a century, enhancing urban development and public services.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister also reiterated that the renovation of the Manama Municipality building embodies the Kingdom’s commitment to preserving institutional landmarks of historical value, ensuring they remain testament to Bahrain’s ongoing urban and developmental progress, while also enhancing the Municipality’s readiness to continue fulfilling its role.

For his part, His Excellency Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, expressed his gratitude for His Royal Highness’s inauguration of the Manama Municipality building, noting that this reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to preserving its heritage and advancing municipal work.

His Excellency further highlighted that Manama witnessed the region’s first municipal establishment in 1919, during the reign of the late HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, positioning it as a pioneering centre for administrative development and urban services.

HE Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), affirmed that the renovation of the Manama Municipality building, directed by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, represents a positive step that contributes to documenting more than a century of municipal work in Bahrain.

HE Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed highlighted that restoring the building to its original features enhances the Authority’s efforts to preserve the architectural and historic memory of Manama, as well as the historical legacy of municipal work in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
